Hey… Here’s a quote I want to chase some more…

Hebrews 12:3 (NASB95)
3 For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Galatians 6:9 (NASB95)
9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in DUE TIME we will reap if we do not grow weary.

However…this quality of enduring and persevering in the Bible is always tied to hope.  We can’t endure or persevere without hope.  No one can. So ultimately the question is, “What are you hoping in?”  What are you hoping FOR? What is the basis of your hope?

Let’s pick up on the questions about hope…

A little earlier in the book of Hebrews we have the following about endurance and perseverance (I‘ll paraphrase):

Chap 10:35 – “Don’t throw away your confidence…”

Chap 10:36 – “You have need of endurance…”

Chap 10:39 -  “We are those who have faith…”

Chap 11:1 – “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for…”

Did you get that?

Don’t throw away your confidence… build a place and move in (endure) right here… and have faith…

What is faith?  Glad you asked…

Faith is the substance of things I hope for.

So here’s the question:  Where is your hope?  What is your hope?  Wherever your hope is you will find the beginnings of faith.  And that is true regardless of what your faith is… and whether or not you have faith in God.

As certainly as Jesus established a connection between our heart and our treasure (“where your treasure is, there your heart is also,”) even so there is a link between what we hope for/in… and our faith.

Is you hope in God and His word?  Then your faith will be there too… and you will endure… and you will hold on… and you will find God faithful… just read the list of people after verse one in chapter eleven… it’s the hall of hope!

Let’s go to church!

Don’t give in… don’t let go!
